Emergency School Closures
There are many reasons why school may have to close at short-notice. Please be aware of the following procedures that will be followed in the event of any Emergency Closure.
Procedure For When School Closure Is Before 8.40am
In the event of an emergency closure, announcements will be made via:
- BBC Radio Humberside
- School website
- Council website
- If possible, an email or message via the Arbor App will be sent to parents/carers
Procedure For When School Closure Occurs During the School Day
An email or message through the Arbor App will be sent to all parents/carers and a notice placed on the school and council websites.
Parents/carers are asked to collect their children from the classrooms where they would usually be dismissed in an afternoon. The member of staff will remove your child from the register upon collection.
Please ensure that your collection of pupils details are kept up to date. You can do this by emailing the school office (kingsway.primary@eastriding.gov.uk).
If your child normally walks home alone from school you must contact the school to give permission for your child to do so. Again, you will be asked some security questions.
NO CHILD WILL BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE UNLESS WE HAVE A SIGNATURE AND/OR APPROPRIATE PERMISSION. Children will be looked after by staff until collected.
Pathway Clearance for Winter Weather Conditions
Ice on the Playground:
In the event of the playground surface being assessed as unsafe eg due to ice, children will be dropped off and/or picked-up through the school hall via the fire exits at the front of the building. If this is the case, a message will be sent to parents/carers informing them of where to drop-off and/or collect. The back gate will remain locked.
Pathway Clearance
In the event of widespread wintery conditions eg snow, pathways will be cleared to enable pedestrian access to the site.
Pathway clearance for pedestrian access to Kingsway Primary School is broken down into two categories: Primary and Secondary Pathways.
Priority will be given to the clearance of all primary pathways which should enable safe access to the school building for all parents, pupils and visitors. Once all primary pathways have been cleared and made as safe as possible then, if time and resources are available, the Secondary Pathways will be addressed.
Primary Pathways:
1. The main car park entrance coming past the Children’s Centre to the school’s Main Entrance doors and hall/dining room fire exits and round to Foundation Door One. This will be cleared from Fountayne Street all the way to these entrances.
Secondary Pathways:
1. The staff car park
2. The pathway from the bottom of the kitchen drive to the playground gates
3. The pathway leading across the front of the school building from the all weather pitch (past the kitchen) to the school main entrance doors.
4. The pathway leading from the field double gates around to the Year 1 classrooms.
5. Path leading from the back gate towards the Harbour classrooms.
